Changes to the site

While suffering from a bit of the old Delhi-belly, I’ve made a few long-overdue changes to the site’s functions. I know, I should have been using the time to write, but there you have it.

First, at the request of several people, I’ve added some navigation to the dispatch page. Now you can move back and forth through the dispatches without closing the popup window, by using the “Previous Dispatch” and “Next Dispatch” buttons at the top and bottom of each dispatch.

Dispatch Navigation

Second, I’ve changed the way the gallery page works. It was always the plan to have the gallery page work on a day-by-day basis, rather than a location-by-location basis. If fact, it worked that way in the beginning, but at some point on the road I had to make some quick fixes and the easiest way to do that was to copy the way that Sheryl’s site worked, which was by location. I’ve put it back the way it used to be now, so the header now looks something like this:

And the navigation buttons like this:

Previous Dispatch Next Dispatch

I hope these changes make the site a little more usable. Please report any bugs here. Sorry it’s taken so long. We now return you to your irregularly unscheduled programming.

Thanks for checking, Bill. I’m planning to add the same post-navigation functionality to Sheryl’s site in the next couple of days.

Hi there!
I’ve been wondering if it would be easy to make a list of dispatches. I’ve missed a couple of months, and can’t find a way to get back far enough to catch up on my reading.

Hope you’re feeling better soon,
k.

Hey you! I’m feeling fine now, cheers for asking. I could probably make a big file and send it to you by email if you like, but the easiest way is just to use the map. Find the location you want to read about and hover the mouse pointer over it on the map - a little box should pop up with photo thumbnails and things. If you click on the box the main page should go directly to that location’s dispatches. If the map is only an image, you need to install the Flash plugin! :) The map loads its thumbnails and stuff from the newest to the oldest, so if you give it a minute or two it should get back far enough for you. Let me know if that doesn’t work or if you still want a file.
